What is postpartum belly binding threapy?
Postpartum belly binding is a traditional, natural and non-invasive postpartum recovery therapy, commonly practised in Malaysia and across many Asian cultures.
After childbirth, a mother’s body still contains a hormone called Relaxin, which causes ligaments, joints, and connective tissues to remain loose and flexible for some time. This is an important part of the postpartum healing process, but it also means that the core muscles, pelvis, and internal organs may take months to gradually return to their pre-pregnancy position and stability.
During this postpartum period, new mothers may experience abdominal separation, weak core strength, pelvic instability, bloating, and lower back discomfort.
Postpartum belly binding works through a combination of gentle abdominal massage using natural oils, followed by the application of a supportive cotton wrap around the abdomen and waist. This traditional technique helps provide external abdominal support, improve posture, and assist the natural postpartum recovery process.
Benefits of Postpartum Belly Binding in Melbourne:
Diastasis recti recovery (abdominal separation support)
Postpartum core strengthening and abdominal support
Natural waist shaping and body contouring after pregnancy
Pelvic stability and uterine support during recovery
Relief from bloating, trapped wind, and fluid retention
Improved posture and lower back support
Gentle, natural postnatal body recovery without invasive treatment
Our Services
Postnatal belly binding is a traditional practice rooted in Southeast Asian care, designed to gently support a mother’s body after childbirth. Using specialised wrapping techniques and natural cotton, it helps provide abdominal and pelvic support, encourage circulation, release excess fluid and toxins, and assist in the natural recovery of abdominal muscles.

Frequently Asked Questions

After childbirth, many women experience bloating caused by trapped wind, loose abdominal skin, and pelvic expansion due to the hormone relaxin. This often leads to abdominal muscle separation (diastasis recti).
Our professional and specialised massage techniques help to release trapped wind and toxin, tighten the abdominal area, and reshape the waistline, while allowing mothers to enjoy deep relaxation. Traditional belly binding also supports the pelvis and abdomen, aiding the recovery of diastasis recti, improving organ positioning, and providing support to the lower back.

For natural delivery: 4–6 weeks postpartum
For C-section: 6–8 weeks postpartum
The first 6 months after childbirth is considered the golden recovery period, as relaxin is still present in the body, making it easier to restore body shape.

Yes, you can continue your normal daily activities, such as going to the bathroom, doing household chores, going out, and breastfeeding. Simply wear clothing that can cover the binding wrap, and you can go about your day as usual.

Appropriate body massage techniques help the body relax, which can positively support breastfeeding.
All products we use are natural and safe, so breastfeeding mothers can use them with confidence.

Belly binding does not directly burn fat. Its primary purpose is to support the recovery of diastasis recti and reshape the body.
For effective weight loss and fat reduction, overall body function plays an important role. Belly binding helps improve circulation, metabolism, and water retention. As the body eliminates excess fluids and toxins, there may be a gradual reduction in weight. By enhancing metabolic function, it can support postpartum slimming and recovery.
-
Over time, the body gradually recovers after childbirth. However, many women may still experience diastasis recti, which can result in a protruding abdomen.
We have had clients who were 15 years postpartum, and after completing a 10-session belly binding program, they still achieved very noticeable results.
-
Generally, individuals with metal implants in the lumbar spine, uterine prolapse, or severe spinal conditions are not suitable for belly binding.
If you have any health concerns or medical conditions, it is recommended to consult a doctor before starting the treatment.
